Summary at a Glance

Immediately after the operation the music legend shared that he'd lost feeling in his hands, and his struggle to play the drums and perform as he used to tragically impacted his mental health poorly - but Phil made it clear that he was trying to keep marching on for his children.

The 74-year-old drummer, singer, and songwriter - who retired in 2022 after he experienced worsening physical limitations as a result of a 2007 spinal injury - made the admission as he gave a poignant update on his health battles, after also being diagnosed with type 2 diabetes in 2017.

Phil looked back at his life and music in his documentary, Phil Collins: Drummer First, which came out late last year after two years of filming.

Unfortunately, the surgery that Phil underwent in 2009 in order to help his 2007 spinal injury didn't go completely smoothly, leading to some of his current issues.

Genesis star Phil Collins has opened up about being so ill that he’s completely lost interest in making music.
