Piers Morgan has confirmed he is leaving News UK to focus on further growing his ‘Uncensored’ YouTube channel among US audiences. The 59-year-old former newspaper editor, who has just finished a three-year contract with Rupert Murdoch’s media company, will now take the reins of his programme to expand its global audience.

Under his own production company, Wake Up Productions Ltd, Mr Morgan will oversee the YouTube channel and its 3.6-million strong subscriber base from now on. News UK will continue to have a commercial stake in Piers Morgan Uncensored for another four years, it has been revealed.

Mr Morgan said about his departure: “I have had a great time working back at News and am delighted that we will continue to be partners.”. The television personality also claimed that the recent US election shows that YouTube is “increasingly powerful,” in an apparent nod to the growing prominence of the platform in the news space.

His statement continued: “Owning the brand allows my team and I the freedom to focus exclusively on building Uncensored into a stand-alone business, editorially and commercially, and in time, widening it from just me and my content. “It’s clear from the recent US election that YouTube is an increasingly powerful and influential media platform, and Uncensored is one of the fastest-growing shows on it in the world. I’m very excited about the potential for Uncensored.”.
