Players move on so Liverpool fans will just have to get over Trent Alexander-Arnold, writes SIMON JORDAN - the club is bigger than one of its parts

Thomas Tuchel officially started in the England job on Wednesday with one of his key assets, Trent Alexander-Arnold, involved in a tug-of-love between Real Madrid and Liverpool. Madrid’s approach to sign Alexander-Arnold this month has been firmly rejected by Liverpool, but it’s a story that is set to run, with the 26-year-old’s contract up in the summer.
Though a lot of Reds fans are unhappy at their local hero contemplating a life away from Anfield, Liverpool’s potential loss could be the country’s gain. Being a member of the Madrid superstar club has not done Jude Bellingham any harm, has it? For Trent, Real Madrid is a huge opportunity and I wouldn’t blame him for taking it.
As a player and person, it gives him the opportunity for different life experiences. You can tell people who have travelled the world as opposed to those who haven’t. Their outlook is more rounded and cosmopolitan, and that applies in football terms, too.
Trent has had a full apprenticeship at Liverpool, rightly received accolades as a Premier League and Champions League winner, and earned the right to choose if his destiny lies abroad. Fans shouldn't begrudge Trent Alexander-Arnold if he wants to move on - it's part of football.
He has been a great servant for the club over the years and shows no sign of downing tools. It is a shame that Real Madrid still have such a pull despite our impression that we have the greatest league and clubs. If he moves, there would be a backlash from some quarters who seem to expect any homegrown talent to spend their entire career with one club, which is ridiculous in this day and age.
