The ITVX drama Playing Nice reached a chilling climax as characters Pete (James Norton), Maddie (Niamh Algar), Miles (James McArdle) and Lucy (Jessica Brown Findlay) took to the stand in a custody battle for Theo and David. Pete, under cross-examination by Lucy and Miles' solicitor, confessed to longing for his former life.

Simultaneously, Maddie was grilled about her extensive working hours, with each character subjected to unique lines of questioning. The finale dropped the bombshell that Lucy had indeed switched the babies, revealing the full extent of the abuse she endured from Miles.

Lucy made the switch in the neonatal intensive care unit to shield her biological son from Miles, fully aware of his potential for harm. It was a spur-of-the-moment decision she fiercely defended. The final episode also underscored the bond between Maddie and Lucy, as they found common ground and empathy in their respective hardships. Maddie, having battled severe depression, used her past experience to support Lucy, who had been subjected to relentless abuse by her husband.

The series, based on a novel by JP Delaney, delves deeper into Lucy's motivations for swapping the babies. Mukta elaborated: "She said that she didn't want her son to be raised by a psychopath.". "She felt guilty about the switch until David was revealed to have issues. David having issues and her having the money and love to take care of him balanced her guilt for switching them.".
