Shrewsbury, a charming market town celebrated for its medieval charm and cultural buzz, has clinched the title of the UK's "best high street". Tucked away in Shropshire, this picturesque gem boasts over 660 heritage buildings and is cradled by the meandering River Severn.

Its Tudor-framed structures, as well as the esteemed Shrewsbury Castle and Abbey, capture the essence of British history. The town thrives with independent vendors lining the streets offering everything from exquisite dining to quaint cafés. Notably, it's the birthplace of evolution theorist Charles Darwin, with tributes including the Darwin Trail studding the town. Stealing the spotlight is Wyle Cop, a street that has been touted by the Telegraph as Britain's finest high street, renowned for its steep gradient, rich past and lively assortment of independent shops and eateries.

Wyle Cop is lined with impressive Georgian and Tudor buildings and it leads visitors to sights like Shrewsbury Abbey and The Quarry park. It is also said to be the longest line of continuous independent stores in Britain offering a treasure trove of exclusive finds and artisan delights.

Shrewsbury's appeal goes beyond its idyllic high street. Shrewsbury is brimming with historic treasures like Shrewsbury Castle and Shrewsbury Abbey. A charmed tourist shared their thoughts after a visit to the Abbey on TripAdvisor: "Lost count how many times I have been to Shrewsbury but never here. What a beautiful place packed with history and beautiful stained glass windows. The choir and orchestra were practicing while there with only me and 9 other people in attendance. What an honour.".
