A pub owner offered drinkers a free pint every time Nottingham Forest scored - only for the side to win 7-0. Landlady Beccy Webster came up with the promotion to highlight the fact the boozer was now showing Premier League games. The first match to be screened at The Gedling Inn in Nottinghamshire was Forest’s Saturday lunchtime clash against Brighton. Punters packed into the pub and were stunned as Nuno Espirito Santo's men, who are flying high in the league, went goal-crazy. Beccy’s staff were forced to hand out hundreds of free pints to the thirsty fans as Forest romped to victory.
Beccy, 33, said: “I was upstairs feeding my baby when I heard the first goal go in, then the second quickly afterwards. I had just come downstairs when the third went in - I thought, ‘Here we go’. When the final whistle went, I just said, ‘Phew’. Never in my wildest dreams did I imagine they’d score seven goals.”. The promotion left Beccy more than £1,000 out of pocket - but she said it was still “a good day”. She added: “People were singing, and people were respectful with the offer - lots of people were still buying drinks. People stayed for food, and lots of people have been asking if we'll be having any more offers on.
“It’s just nice to get behind the team - it's good for the whole city, they're putting us on the map. We're thinking about what offers we can do next - but I am not sure we'll ever top the drama of that.”. Beccy said she had received messages from as far away as Australia, the US, Brazil, and Poland about about the promotion. Local Felix Hogg said: “What a pub - they kept to their word.” And Kayleigh Smith added: “Well done to the landlady for sticking to it - bet there were a lot of sore heads on Sunday.”.
