Brits have been urged to keep their "eyes peeled" for two incredibly rare 50p coins that are still in circulation. These highly sought after pieces could be worth a tidy sum of around £250 combined. A coin enthusiast, known as the Coin Collecting Wizard on social media, revealed that these two specific designs from 2009 and 2023 are considered the "holy grails" of collectable coins. Speaking on video sharing platform TikTok, he asked: "Have you ever noticed some 50 pence coins have designs on them?".

He then added: "Well, there are two of them that sell for over £100." The first valuable coin he highlighted was the 2009 Kew Gardens piece, which features an image of the famous Chinese Pagoda on the reverse side. This coin is recognised by the Royal Mint as one of the most "iconic" and "loved" coins available. Its value is largely due to its rarity, with the coin expert explaining: "This is an old 50 pence from 2009 and is the Kew Gardens 50p.".

He continued: "Only 210,000 of these coins entered UK change and sells for £150." Currently, some online listings price this coin at £250, while others ask for up to £300. As reported by LancashireLive, the second coin to look out for is a 2023 50p piece. "This 50 pence is from 2023 and is known as the Atlantic salmon 50p," he said.

"Only 200,000 of these coins entered UK change and sell for around £100." However, it's important to note that only a specific version of this coin holds significant value. He cautioned: "But be careful with this one. As it is only the 2023 with no privy mark that entered UK circulation that is rare and valuable.".
