Wetherspoon is set to open 13 new pubs in the UK this year. The pub chain will open seven more boozers before the summer, along with four more locations inside Haven Holiday Parks. Wetherspoon has already opened two new pubs this year in Marlow, Buckinghamshire, and at London Waterloo station.
The latest additions take its total openings confirmed so far for 2025 to 13 new pubs. You can find a full list of locations below. Wetherspoon currently has 796 sites in the UK. It comes after Wetherspoon revealed its latest financial update today, with its like-for-like sales up by 5.1% over the 25 weeks to January 19, compared with a year earlier.
It said food sales were a big contributing factor to this, increasing by 5.6% year-on-year, while bar sales were up 4.5%. Wetherspoon also said cheers to better Christmas results for the pub chain, with a 6.1% rise in sales recorded over the three weeks from December 16 to January 5.
However, Wetherspoon boss Tim Martin said he is prepared for costs to jump in April due to wage and National Insurance tax increases. He said: “From April 1, labour-related costs at Wetherspoon will increase by around £60 million per annum. The company is confident of a reasonable outcome for the year, although forecasting is more difficult, given the extent of the increased costs.”.
The rate of National Insurance paid by firms will rise from 13.8% to 15% from April 2025, while the earnings threshold for when employers start paying National Insurance will also be lowered from £9,100 per year to £5,000. Labour is also raising the minimum wage for workers. The National Living Wage for people aged 21 and over will rise to £12.21 in April, up from £11.44 currently.
