Incoming New York Jets head coach Aaron Glenn has reportedly targeted six coaches to join his first staff in the The Big Apple, including a few former head coaches. Glenn is targeting Steve Wilks to be his defensive coordinator, as well as former Kansas City Chiefs head coach Todd Haley.
Former Chicago Bears interim head coach Thomas Brown is also under consideration from Glenn, per Fox Sports. One of his former players, former NFL defender Chris Banjo, is being sought to become the Jets' special teams coach. He is currently on the special-teams staff of the Broncos.
Mark Brunell, the former NFL star and current quarterbacks coach for the Lions, could continue the Motor City exodus and join the Jets as well. Mike Westhoff retired after the 2024 NFL season , with Glenn reaching out to see if a career U-turn is possible.
Aaron Glenn has wasted no time trying to put together his first staff as New York Jets coach. Glenn was the Lions defensive coordinator since 2021, with him getting his first head-coaching opportunity for the team that selected him in the first round 31 years prior.
Since losing in the Divisional round to the Washington Commanders on Saturday, the Lions have lost three assistant coaches, including Glenn to other teams. Detroit's offensive coordinator, Ben Johnson, got his own head coaching job with the Chicago Bears.
Defensive line coach Terrell Williams got a promotion on Mike Vrabel's New England Patriots staff as the defensive coordinator. Glenn is the seventh head coach the Jets have hired since 2000, with all but one, Adam Gase, being a first-time head coach when they were hired.
