Revealed: Thomas Tuchel is speaking to England hopefuls - two months ahead of naming his first squad since taking charge

England head coach Thomas Tuchel has started the process of introducing himself to his new players ahead of his opening games in charge. Tuchel formally started work on January 1 and has already watched a number of Premier League matches in preparation for his first squad announcement for the World Cup games versus Albania and Latvia in March.
And Tuchel has spoken to a number of players already ahead of finalising his plans for the forthcoming matches. Tuchel already has relationships with some of the players who could feature in his first squad selection; most pertinently captain Harry Kane, who worked with the German coach at Bayern Munich.
But the former Chelsea head coach has been keen to make the first move in familiarising himself with some of this country’s new generation of talent. Chelsea winger Noni Madueke this week revealed he has been among the squad hopefuls to have been contacted by Tuchel since the turn of the year - and the attacker isn’t the only one to have spoken to the new boss.

Tuchel will inherit a key problem at left-back with Luke Shaw still out injured with a calf issue, Kieran Trippier retired from international football and Ben Chilwell out of favour at Chelsea. Arsenal’s rookie Myles Lewis-Skelly, 18, has impressed England scouts this season playing at left-back but it remains to be seen whether the Football Association are willing to put him straight into the senior set-up or promote him into the Under-21 squad before earning what looks an inevitable full cap.
