Thomas Tuchel makes key decision ahead of naming first England squad

Thomas Tuchel has set up his own hotline to England players. England boss Tuchel has made several calls to introduce and familiarise himself with players since taking charge on January 1. Tuchel has been busy going to Premier League games and looking at possible call-ups ahead of naming his first England squad in March for the back-to-back World Cup qualifiers with Albania and Latvia at Wembley.
Former Chelsea boss Tuchel clearly knows players from his time in charge at Stamford Bridge and working within English football. Chelsea winger Noni Madueke revealed this week that he had a call from Tuchel and it is understood others have had the same.
Tuchel worked with the likes of Reece James, Mason Mount and Ben Chilwell while at Chelsea but they have fallen out of the England reckoning. The German knows Harry Kane well from their time together at Bayern Munich and the England boss has already insisted he sees no reason to change the captaincy and wants to stick with the nation’s record scorer.
England now have a new generation coming through and it is clear that Tuchel wants to introduce himself to the players. Tuchel has also been to a lot of games - including double headers from his first date in January for Tottenham ’s clash with Newcastle before travelling down to watch Brighton ’s game with Arsenal on the same day - and has seen managers, directors and been into boardrooms.
