Rickie Fowler makes honest TGL admission as Rory McIlroy and Tiger Woods prepare for launch

Rickie Fowler has revealed he has no idea how he ended up on the team representing New York in the soon-to-be-launch innovative golf league TGL. TGL will officially get underway in Palm Beach Gardens in January, where some of the PGA Tour's top players will compete in a purpose-built arena housing state-of-the-art simulator equipment. In total, 24 players have been split across six teams in the indoor circuit made by Rory McIlroy and Tiger Woods.
One of golf's most recognisable faces in Fowler is one of those competing, having joined New York Golf Club alongside Xander Schauffele, Cameron Young and Matt Fitzpatrick for the 2025 season. Of the four players, only one descends from the New York area in Young, with Fowler from California, Schauffele a San Diego native, and Fitzpatrick English. It appears not too many players have close ties to their respected areas, with Fowler unsure as to how he ended up being selected for New York GC.
"If I am being completely honest I am not sure," Fowler told The Smylie Show after being quizzed on how he was selected to represent New York. "I don't know how the whole [selection] process necessarily went. Luckily I was in a position where I heard that a few different teams wanted to have me.
"Which is great to be in that spot, but I think that is above my pay grade. I am not sure how the guys, other than maybe like Tiger being with Jupiter Links, I think that might have been a shoo-in. I don't know how they went through the process... For all the latest on news, politics, sports, and showbiz from the USA, go to The Mirror US.
