Robbie Fowler is in the frame for the manager's job at Bolton following the decision to sack Ian Evatt. Fowler, 49, is looking for an opportunity to manage in England after spells in Thailand, India, Australia and Saudi Arabia - and sources close to the vastly experienced former Liverpool, Leeds and Manchester City striker have confirmed that he is interested in taking over at the Toughsheet Community Stadium.

Wanderers parted company with Evatt after Tuesday night's home defeat by Charlton left them ninth in the League One table in a season where they were expected to be challenging for promotion after last season's heartbreak in the play-off final. Former Stoke boss Steven Schumacher, Rotherham's Steve Evans and ex-Bolton chief Sam Allardyce have also been linked. But Fowler is motivated and ambitious to prove that he can forge a managerial career to emulate his playing days.

He also played for Cardiff and Blackburn as well as enjoying spells in Australia and Thailand over the course of 19 years. Fowler has been looking for the right opportunity to return to management after being sacked by Al-Qadish in late 2023 after a stint as coach which saw him go unbeaten in all eight games he was in charge.

Evatt's sacking was announced on Wednesday following a 2-1 defeat to Charlton Athletic. The Trotters have now dropped to ninth in the League One table and sit three points adrift of the play-off places. Academy coaches Julian Darby, Andy Taylor and Andrew Tutte have been placed in interim charge. They will lead the team for the trip to Huddersfield Town on Saturday, though a permanent appointment could be made quickly.
