Enzo Maresca will weigh up whether to withdraw Robert Sanchez from the limelight after back-to-back erroneous matches saw Chelsea’s supporters turn on their beleaguered goalkeeper. Chelsea have a full week of training until facing West Ham at Stamford Bridge next Monday and Maresca wants to gauge the reaction to Saturday’s 3-1 loss to Manchester City.

The final decision over who starts in goal between Sanchez and his 22-year-old understudy Robert Sanchez will rest with Maresca and it is expected he will wait until the eve of their next outing before confirming his selection with the squad. City took the lead when Sanchez rushed out of his area and into no man’s land, as Haaland scored from a chance which apparently carried an initial xG worth 0.03.

That followed the 27-year-old Spaniard spilling a catch which allowed Wolves to equalise in their previous match, though Chelsea managed to win that match 3-1. Maresca said after the City game that he still trusts Sanchez. He could decide to stick with him for the West Ham game and then give Jorgensen, who has acted as his cup goalkeeper, his chance to impress in the FA Cup clash with Brighton that follows.
