Chelsea make decision over signing goalkeeper to replace under-fire Robert Sanchez

Chelsea have decided that they do not need to sign a new goalkeeper to replace Robert Sanchez, according to reports. Sanchez has faced plenty of criticism from various football pundits this season and has been identified as a weak link in the Chelsea XI.

A video of his mistakes went viral this week with Chelsea head coach Enzo Maresca considering dropping Sanchez as his No.1 shot-stopper. It was also recently reported that the Blues were considering a move for Japan international goalkeeper Zion Suzuki from Italian side Parma.

According to The Athletic, though, Chelsea have now decided that they do not need a recruit a new goalkeeper. That’s because Chelsea believe they have already added two younger goalkeepers who can provide competition for Sanchez long-term. The Blues feel their current back-up Filip Jorgensen and Mike Penders, who will join Chelsea in July from Genk, can challenge for the No.1 spot.
Chelsea signed Jorgensen from Villarreal for €24.5m in the last summer transfer window but he’s largely been kept out of the team by Sanchez. Sanchez’s run in the Chelsea XI could be coming to an end, though, with Jamie Carragher recently declaring he should be playing for a team in the bottom half of the Premier League table.
After Sanchez’s blunder in the 3-1 win over Wolves earlier this month, football pundit Carragher told Sky Sports: ‘Every set-piece is the same now, with people trying to block the goalkeeper. ‘He pushes someone away so he now has the time to deal with it. He should just punch it. He’s a Premier League goalkeeper. It’s not a foul. There’s nothing there.
