Arsenal legend Paul Merson believes Ruben Amorim regrets taking the Manchester United job mid-season. Amorim has won just three of his 11 Premier League games in charge of the Red Devils since taking the job in November, picking up 11 points. Erik ten Hag had tallied 15 points in the 11 games before he was sacked and after a radical change in system, Amorim's ideas don't seem to be sticking.
The Portuguese revealed recently that he had only had six proper training sessions with his stars. He was so furious with his players after the 3-1 loss to Brighton that he branded them 'maybe the worst team in the club's history' and reportedly smashed the dressing room TV.
And Merson says Amorim will question whether he should have taken the Old Trafford role after United's poor start to the campaign. The Red devils currently sit 13 in the Premier League table, with one win in the last six outings. 'This man's 39 years of age. I mean, there are players just finishing their footballing careers at 38,' Merson said on Sky Sports' Soccer Saturday. 'He's young and in management, really young. He's done well in Portugal, he's coming to one of the biggest clubs in the world, by far not the best team in the world, but one of the biggest clubs in the world.
'And he's finding it hard. The pressure's on him. Someone's obviously said to him, you need to backtrack on that and start blaming yourself a little bit here because the players won't have that, they won't have that, they won't be sitting there saying that, but it's gonna be hard for him.
