Manchester United are hoping to bring Mathys Tel to Old Trafford and sell Alejandro Garnacho before the transfer window shuts in a matter of days. The Red Devils are said to hold an advantage in the race to secure Tel's signature, with Chelsea, Arsenal and Tottenham all interested in the player. However, Spurs could yet prove a complicating factor in proceedings having now agreed a fee with Bayern Munich for a permanent transfer.

United's interest may have been hampered by Premier League profit and sustainability rules, but the possibility of a loan could prove appealing. An exit for Garnacho would, of course, improve their standing to consider a transfer. Should Tel arrive, he could play in a similar position to the Argentine, with the exchange seen as a potential 'swap deal'. United, who are currently in the bottom half of the Premier League, are said to be favoured by Tel as he feels confident he can move straight into the club's failing forward line. Ruben Amorim's side may now need to prove themselves to Bayern after Spurs' bid.

The north London club could also utilise a starting spot as leverage in negotiations, while Arsenal may be unable to be quite as convincing when their full array of attacking talent is fit. For United, a move for Tel is not dependent on Garnacho departing but the Argentina international's exit would allow for a smooth transition. The young winger's high salary and potentially high fee would open up some room for United in terms of PSR. It would also allow the opportunity for Ruben Amorim to bring in a player more suited to his system.

Reports claim that Garnacho is still preparing to leave the club before the transfer window shuts on Monday. Napoli have already seen a bid rejected for the player while Chelsea hold and interest in the 20-year-old. It has also been claimed that Bayern would prefer to loan Tel out rather than sell him, which could yet benefit United's cause. The significance of Tottenham's £50million offer means they will agree to the Frenchman's sale should the player wish to pursue the move.

Tel and his agent are set to consider the 19-year-old's options in the coming days with the deadline looming. Bayern sporting director Max Ebert has already highlighted interest in the youngster, who wants more minutes. "He said that the playing time wasn’t enough for him and that’s understandable”, Eberl said. "Nevertheless, we would have liked him to keep fighting. There’s no bad blood. I can understand him. I’ve rarely had so many clubs call me about a player before. We spoke in December and Mathys said he wanted to establish himself. Now he said he wants to leave. We have to think about whether we will do it and what we will do.".
