Amad sealed a dramatic late comeback derby win for Manchester United – as Ruben Amorim showed his ruthless side by axing Marcus Rashford. Winger Amad inspired United's smash and grab victory, winning a penalty converted by Bruno Fernandes two minutes from time, then scoring the winner in the 90th minute. Defeat for City means the fallen champions have won just one of their last 11 games in all competitions, with Pep Guardiola's players sliding even deeper into crisis.
Jubilant United boss Ruben Amorim hailed his side's win and even referenced 'Fergie Time' – when they used to win games late on under legendary former boss Sir Alex Ferguson. And while he lauded the comeback as "incredible", he had a clear message to his side: "We need to continue!".
“It was incredible,” said Amorim. “It was a tough match but we believed until the end. I also believed, then we had Fergie time and we put things together and something magic happened. It was a good day for us. The fans needed it, just like us, but you can see the way they celebrated is special.
"But we need to continue. Our club needs to win these kinds of matches. I understand the happiness of our fans but we need to continue.”. On his decision to drop Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho from United's squad, Amorim said: It’s important to say it was not a disciplinary thing. If it was disciplinary, I would say that here and it would be a bigger problem, but it was not that.
“Next week, next game, a new life. But for me it’s important, the performance in training, the performance in game, the way you dress, the way you eat, the way you engage with team-mates - everything is important at the beginning of something when we want to change a lot of things.
