Ruben Amorim has revealed he has spoken with Sir Alex Ferguson "several times" as he attempts to turn things around at Manchester United. Amorim has picked up just six wins from his first 15 games in charge of the Red Devils and he claimed after their latest defeat to Brighton on Sunday that his side were perhaps the worst in the club's history.
Legendary United boss Ferguson, who won more than 30 trophies during his time at Old Trafford, attended the Brighton game as the club paid tribute to their former striker Denis Law after he passed away at the age of 84 and he had a lengthy chat with Amorim ahead of the game.
And Amorim has since revealed that he and Ferguson have also spoke over the phone about United's struggles, telling BBC Radio 5 Live: "I speak with Sir Alex several times. I try to call him to keep being positive. "It's really good because I feel the history of the club but it's really hard, as they did such a good job, to be the guy leading the team at this moment. It's really hard but we have to believe.".
United are due to host Rangers in the Europa League on Thursday and, speaking ahead of that game, Amorim admitted he had made a mistake in describing his team as perhaps the worst in club history. "I didn't think and I am a young guy, sometimes I make a mistake," he said at his pre-match press conference. "That's why I do not talk after the game. This game, I needed to talk and maybe it was a mistake and I get more nervous and go to the press conference really nervous and you say things you shouldn't say.
