Ruben Amorim told 'confusing' Man Utd jibe could backfire on him after headline comments

Ruben Amorim did not mince his words after Manchester United's latest Old Trafford failure. Despite managing impressive results on the road at Manchester City, Liverpool and Arsenal, Amorim's United have frequently looked toothless at home, and on Sunday they suffered their fourth defeat in their last five Premier League matches at what used to be seen as the Theatre of Dreams.
All in all Amorim's Premier League record reads two wins from 10 games, and when he stepped out in front of the microphones at his post-match press conference he let everyone know what he thought. "We are the worst team maybe in the history of Manchester United," he said. "I know you want headlines but I am saying that because we have to acknowledge that and to change that. Here you go: your headlines.".
And while it was very kind for Ruben to provide us with those headlines, his comments have understandably provoked plenty of debate. Is this really the worst United side ever? Was he right to single out his players like that? Where do they go from here? We asked the Mirror Football team for their views:.
Let's be absolutely clear: Ruben Amorim made his remarks to set his own agenda. If the draw at Liverpool, knocking Arsenal out of the FA Cup and late fightback against Southampton raised expectations then the calamitous defeat to Brighton brought Manchester United crashing back down to earth.
Amorim was making sure that everyone knows rebuilding United will be a long-term job. There is no quick fix if you want to actually get it right. The squad looks horribly unbalanced and unable to excel in Amorim’s preferred 3-4-3 formation. That will take time and several windows to repair.
