Van Nistelrooy is set to make improvements at the back - and he needs a new wide man with Abdul Fatawu injured for the season. If he goes back to Old Trafford for players, then he may target centre-back Victor Lindelof who has yet to start a Premier League game for United this season.

Asked if he would use his contacts at United, he said: “I’m looking at my network, having played in a couple of countries. “It’s important to use that to strengthen the squad and help the team reach its target. “But it's good to look at where the injuries are and make your own conclusions.
