Of all the derbies and rivalries that enrich Scottish football’s tribal landscape, could it be that Dundee’s is the pick of the bunch?. Simon Murray, Dundee striker and boyhood fan of the club, certainly thought so before their last meeting with Dundee United, at Dens Park earlier this month.

‘Probably the best derby in the country in terms of entertainment,’ said Murray. ‘Has been for years.’. Sure enough, it turned out to be a belter, with Murray putting Dundee ahead from the penalty spot, Vicko Sevelj equalising and Sam Dalby completing the turnaround with a late winner.

The two sides had already shared four goals on the opening day of the league season, when Dundee twice came from behind at Tannadice. Luke McCowan’s late penalty earned them a point. There is no reason to suppose that tomorrow's meeting back at Dens will be any different, especially with the Scottish Cup giving it an added glint.

United's Sam Dalby celebrates his dramatic late winner in the most recent Dundee derby. Simon Murray put Dundee ahead before United won 2-1 at Dens Park earlier this month. Oluwaseun Adewumi  showed his potential by scoring in Dundee's 3-3 draw with Celtic.

It is the most eagerly anticipated of the fourth-round ties, which is why it was picked for live television coverage and moved to the Monday night slot. The Old Firm derby will always be the country’s biggest, thanks mainly to the size of the clubs, the number of supporters and the media coverage they command.
