Serial burglars sentenced to 20 months in prison for string of thefts in east London

This is the moment a burglar was chased down by police after being caught with gold rings, bangles and necklaces. Two thieves have been jailed after stealing £25,000 worth of gold and other goods in a string of burglaries in Redbridge. Geani Bogonos, 42 from Chadwell Health, and Vasile Filip, 26 from East Ham, were arrested 150 metres from a house they burgled after being chased by police. Officers responded to a break-in on Mansted Gardens in Chadwell Heath on December 15 and within half an hour officers had blocked off escape routes.
The offenders were forced to flee to the High Road where they were chased down by police. When the pair were searched officers found two gold rings, two gold bangles and three gold necklaces, which were missing from the property. Detectives were then able to place the men at the scene of other break-ins, including an incident at a different address in Mansted Gardens, where a safe containing £25,000 worth of gold and £3,000 cash was stolen.
Bogonos and Filip were sentenced to 20 months in prison at Snaresbrook Crown Court on Monday after pleading guilty at their first appearance hearing. Bogonos was convicted of two burglaries, with a further three offences taken into consideration. Meanwhile, Filip was convicted of one burglary with three further offences taken into consideration. All offences taken into account occurred throughout Redbridge between October and November 2024.
PC David Izard, who was the officer in charge of the investigation, said: “Burglaries are a huge intrusion of privacy and have a lasting impact on communities. “As highlighted here, our officers responded at speed and showed real bravery to track, chase and detain the suspects. “The team then conducted a thorough investigation which showed Bogonos and Filip to be serial offenders – and ultimately led to them being taken off our streets.
