Silent Witness star details 'change' for Dr Nikki and Jack after unexpected proposal

It's that time of the year again as BBC viewers prepare to watch Dr Nikki Alexander (Emilia Fox) and the Lyell team face a new wave of unusual and unnerving crimes. However, in the middle of all the chaos, romance continued to blossom between Nikki and Jack Hodgson (David Caves).
As the last episode drew to a close, fans were thrilled as an unexpected proposal unfolded. Sitting on the sofa, Jack handed Nikki an evidence bag with an object inside. After pulling the box out, she quickly realised he was proposing after discovering a diamond ring inside. Saying yes, the pair shared a sweet kiss before the episode came to an end.
This season, the pair will be in full wedding planning mode, although actress Emilia Fox teased how their engagement could change the pair's dynamic. When asked where their relationship is now, she replied: "The relationship between Jack and Nikki has been running over such a long period of time, and the expectation has been so great about what would or wouldn't happen, that we wanted that to be rewarded in the way that the proposal took place.".
Detailing the history of their relationship, Emilia highlighted how they've gone from being friends to loving one another and getting over the hurdle of also being work colleagues in a relationship. Teasing what lies ahead for the upcoming season, the actress continued: "Now they're in this moment where they're going to make a commitment to each other. They don't have many other people in their family life.
"Jack's just lost his dad, he still has his niece and his wayward brother, but Nikki has got no one. So they are everything to each other. There's this ever-present thought: “If we make this change, will we still have what we had before? Will it change it, making it formal?'.
