Sky Sports want to launch a Sunday afternoon goals show next season offering fans near-live action from up to four Premier League matches on one channel. Amazon Prime have used the format on an occasional basis as part of their Premier League coverage, with Jeff Stelling presenting Every Game Every Goal earlier this month with action from six top-flight matches.
As part of the new domestic Premier League TV deal that starts next season Sky have the live rights to every game kicking off at 2pm on Sundays, giving them the chance to offer a goals show for the first time. Sky will broadcast three or four 2pm games live simultaneously next season, usually involving clubs who have played in the Europa League and Conference League the previous Thursday.
Sky will also have the 4:30pm Super Sunday game which will remain their flagship programme. They also want to provide a Goals Show format for floating armchair fans earlier in the day. It comes as presenter Kelly Cates prepares to leave Sky Sports to join the BBC as part of a new team of hosts to take over from Gary Lineker as anchor of Match of the Day.
Cates, daughter of Liverpool icon Sir Kenny Dalglish, will join Mark Chapman and Gabby Logan in rotating as presenters of both Match of the Day and MOTD2. Cates is also a regular on BBC Radio 5 Live and it's said the 49-year-old was quickly identified by the BBC as the 'leading external candidate' to succeed Lineker.
