Son Heung-min delivered the perfect response to an antagonising Lisandro Martinez, during Tottenham's win over Manchester United. With Ruben Amorim's side pushing for a late equaliser having seen Joshua Zirkzee and Amad Diallo reduce their deficit to a single goal, the hosts were in no rush to hand them another opportunity. The Spurs captain was in a pedestrian mood as he moved to take a corner in the 88th minute with his side 3-2 up.
World Cup winner Martinez was unimpressed to say the least and was caught by Sky Sports cameras looking to speed up proceedings. The United defender attempted to cajole the dawdling Tottenham star as he approached him from behind and directed him towards the corner flag, along with what appeared to be some choice words.
South Korea international Son was scarcely hurried as he was applauded by home supporters. The 32-year-old regained his composure before delivering the ball straight into the net from the set piece. An emphatic response, despite United goalkeeper Altay Bayındır's protestations that his arm was held by Lucas Bergvall. The Turkish goalkeeper remonstrated with the officials following the game to no avail.
Andre Onana's deputy was unable to benefit from VAR which was not in use for the match. Bayindir drew criticism for how he dealt with Son's effort, but not from his head coach. Asked whether Bayindir had apologised for the goal, Amorim said: “No, he doesn’t have to do that.
