Rebecca Lowe has broken her silence amid reports she's set to replace Kelly Cates at Sky Sports. It's been claimed that Cates, alongside Mark Chapman and Gabby Logan, will take over hosting duties for Match of the Day from Gary Lineker, who the BBC announced is stepping down after an illustrious 26-year tenure at the end of the season. Cates, 49, has been a prominent figure in Sky Sports' football coverage for nearly a decade, and her departure is set to leave a sizeable hole in their broadcasting team.

It's understood that Lowe, 44, is a candidate to replace Cates, but the NBC Sports presenter kept her cards close to her chest when asked about rumours of a switch. She told Mirror Football: "It is a surprise to me. "That's all I'm going to say. I don't think there’s any comment to be made on that front. I'm very happy at NBC.".

London-born Lowe began her broadcasting career at the BBC as a reporter on the company's weekly results show, Final Score. She then became a contributor on Match of the Day 2, and later landed gigs at the 2004 Africa Cup of Nations and the 2006 World Cup.

In 2007 she joined Setanta Sports, where she worked alongside Cates. The pair were colleagues for several years, and grew close after transitioning to ESPN together following Setanta's demise in 2009. It's been nearly a decade and a half since they were in the same company, but Lowe says she and Cates remain good friends. She also lavished the soon-to-be Match of the Day presenter with the utmost praise, branding her "top of her class".
