One in five flights from airports in the UK and Ireland was cancelled on Friday as Storm Eowyn caused disruption at several major airports.
Rail services, flights and ferries have been axed, and rare red weather warnings are in place on Friday in Scotland and Northern Ireland, as winds of up to 100mph have swept the country.
Hurricane force winds are those that reach at least 74mph, according to the Beaufort scale, the Met Office said.
A top speed of 96mph was recorded on Friday at Brizlee Wood in Northumberland, while a gust of 100mph was recorded at Drumalbin in South Lanarkshire, Scotland.
