Le Scouarnec, who worked in various clinics across western France over 34 years, was jailed for 15 years in 2020 for the abuse of four children, including two of his nieces.

Joël Le Scouarnec, 74, appeared in the dock in the city of Vannes today, the first day of his trial, to say he was ready to ‘take responsibility’ for his deeds and that he was ‘perfectly aware that these wounds cannot be erased or healed’.

‘I’ve been waiting for this moment for a long time,” said one accuser, Amelie Leveque, 42, though she added she was ‘afraid’ to see Le Scouarnec in the flesh again.
