The most 'iconic' restaurant in the world has been named - and it's not located in a renowned foodie hotspot like Rome, Paris or Tokyo. According to Taste Atlas - a culinary online catalogue - a cosy diner in Vienna known for its signature 'Wiener schnitzel' has snagged the winning title.
Figlmüller in Austria has been feeding the city for 115 years, and perfected its delicacy, which has become synonymous with the European capital. Dubbed 'the house special that became a city symbol', it is served with a 'potato-field salad' and recommended alongside a glass of wine or beer.
The venue, the 'secret' is in the pork used for the classic dish, as as the 'pounding' of the meat before it is battered and fried. 'There are nearly as many variations on Wiener schnitzel as there are Viennese,' Figlmüller claims. 'But none have achieved as much acclaim and fame. And we think it's a matter of size. But size wouldn't matter, if the schnitzel weren't so wonderfully delicious - made from top-quality, local ingredients.'.
