A COUPLE with a whopping 45 year age gap are preparing to celebrate two decades of marriage, despite a rocky start to their relationship. Adrián Narváez, now 43, and Delia Lúquez, now 88, struck up a friendship before things turned romantic between the pair.

He says that even as a teenager, he was never attracted to women who were the same age as him. Adrián felt as though he was born at the wrong time as he also prefers older houses and car models. He first met Delia at an art exhibition in 1998 when she was 61 and he was 16 – but the pair did not start a romantic relationship until years later.

Delia, a teacher and hobby painter, and Adrián, who enjoyed writing poems and stories, bonded through their creative spirit. After their initial meeting, they kept in touch and wrote each other letters – which Adrián still cherishes to this day. Years later, he admitted to Delia that he had fallen in love with her and the pair began a romantic relationship.

But they kept their romance a secret – meeting up occasionally to play a game of cards or share a drink. They did not understand that, despite the age difference, we could love each other. Adrián and Delia, who both live in Rivadavia, Mendoza, Argentina, are both Jehovah's Witnesses.

Due to the ethical rules of conduct, they were unable to see each other in a space alone. But after 12 months of secrecy, they decided to go public. “The father accepted me right away but the mother didn't want to know anything,” Delia told local press.
