Tesco Bank issues urgent warning to anyone using Apple Pay or Google Pay

Tesco Bank has urged its customers to follow three simple steps to keep safe over the festive period as a "new scam is on the rise". If you've been paying for all of your Christmas shopping by tapping your mobile phone or smart watch, you'll know just how convenient features like Apple and Google Pay are. There's no annoying loose change, no PIN numbers to remember, and it doesn't really feel like you're spending money (although your bank balance brings you back to reality).
However, Brits banking with Tesco, which was recently acquired by Barclays Group, were sent an email this week explaining how 'digital wallet fraud' is becoming more common. This can range from stolen credit card information to people creating 'fake digital wallets to deceive individuals into providing their payment information'.
"Fraudsters continually devise new methods, such as phishing scams, malware attacks, and social engineering tactics, to exploit vulnerabilities in digital wallet systems and deceive users into revealing their sensitive data," experts over at Fraud said. "As digital wallets become an integral part of modern financial transactions, understanding the evolving landscape of digital wallet fraud is crucial to safeguarding personal and financial information.".
In a correspondence viewed by the Mirror, Tesco Bank reassured its customers that using Google and Apple Pay to 'securely store' your credit cards is a 'safe and easy way' to pay for your goods on your device. When you first add your card details to a digital wallet, your card provider will send you a one-time passcode (by text or email) to check it's you.
