Neymar is set to forfeit an eyewatering amount of money after terminating his contract with Saudi Pro League side Al Hilal. The Brazillian joined Saudi Pro League side Al Hilal in August 2023 but managed just seven appearances in all competitions during his time with the club.
Just two months after joining, the Brazilian suffered a season-ending anterior cruciate ligament injury while on international duty. But having made his return a year later, the 32-year-old has not been seen in action since November having picked up another injury in his second game back.
Neymar and Al Hilal have now decided to go their separate ways, tearing up a contract that was originally set to run until August of this year. A statement from the club said: ‘Al Hilal Club Company and Neymar Jr have agreed to terminate their contractual relationship by mutual consent.
‘The club expresses its thanks and appreciation to Neymar for what he has provided throughout his career at Al-Hilal, and wish the player success in his career.’. According to reports, the early termination of his contract will see Neymar forgo a sum in the region of £20-24million from the £52.3m remaining on his contract.
It also means that Neymar ended up costing the Saudi club over £11m per appearance having signed from Paris Saint-Germain for a fee of around £77.6m. Now a free agent, Neymar is reportedly closing in on a return to boyhood club Santos on a one-year deal.
