The gross reason to stop taking your phone into the bathroom while you shower

What’s a shower without your favourite podcast playing, or singing along to your favourite tunes?. As a society permanently attached to our phones, a lot of us like bringing them into the bathroom when we shower. One TikToker, Andi Naka, was guilty of this habit, that is, until she made a rather gruesome discovery.
Now she’s issued a warning to those of us who do it too. ‘Just a little PSA, if you don’t have a clear phone case,’ she says on TikTok, as she holds her caseless iPhone. ‘I usually take this phone to the shower to listen to music.’. Andi then simply holds holds up her pink phone case revealing lots of black mould dotted all over the inside.
It’s the same type of mould you might find in damp patches in your bathroom, which is the biggest breeding ground for bacteria, with nearly half of British bathrooms plagued. Moisture from the shower had become trapped between her phone and its case, allowing the mould to grow – and it could happen to you too.
Some TikTokers in the comments were alarmed at the warning, writing: ‘But I need to watch my Youtube in the shower’ and ‘honestly wtf.’. Andi insisted that she does clean her phone with alcohol wipes weekly, she just didn’t think she needed to clean ‘the inside of the case that nothing touches’.
Some suggested the TikToker should keep the windows and doors open while she showers to help with ventilation, so things get less damp. A bluetooth speaker was another solution suggested. It’s important to be wary of mould. Pharmacist Nyrah Saleem previously told Metro.co.uk: ‘Mould exposure can irritate your ears, eyes, nose and throat leading to symptoms such as a dry mouth, sneezing or a sore throat.
