The Traitors fans have raised thousands of pounds for charity Mencap in the name of finalist Alexander Dragonetti. While on the hit BBC murder mystery show, Alexander revealed he would give away his winnings to the learning disability charity if he was awarded the prize fund. Despite making it all the way to the final as a Faithful, Alexander was banished from the game at the very last opportunity as his co-stars still doubted him.
He had opened up to his co-stars about how much the charity had meant to him as they provided support to his late brother, who had Global Developmental Delay and died aged just 17. Ex-diplomat Alexander won over a legion of fans while on the BAFTA winning show and viewers decided to shared their support for him by offering donations in his name.
On Monday, Mencap revealed they had been flooded with donations with £30,000 being raised since the show's finale on Friday. Reacting to the news, Alexander told Yahoo: “That is fantastic. I am so grateful to anybody who’s donated or felt moved to spread awareness about it.
“I know firsthand how challenging it can be for parents with children with special needs or siblings with brothers and sisters who have special needs or other relationships too. It’s such a challenging job. It’s a full-time job, and it’s very hard to advocate or to speak out as well.
“And if I can play that role even a bit for families like that or with charities, then I’d be honoured to do that, and it would be one of the most powerful things that I could take out of this experience.” Over 20,000 people chose to make a donation thanks to Alexander. Mencap's Chief Executive of learning disability, Jon Sparkes said: "We are really grateful to Alexander for courageously sharing his personal story about his late brother who had a learning disability on The Traitors.
