Tiger Woods believes his son Charlie’s ceiling in golf is ‘unlimited’ after he made his first career hole-in-one during their runner-up finish at the PNC Championship. Woods made his first competitive appearance since the Open in July when he played alongside his son in the 36-hole family scramble event.
Holding a lead going into Sunday’s action, Team Woods were caught by Team Langher – consisting of two-time Masters winner Bernhard Langer and his son Jason – who eventually claimed victory with an eagle on the first playoff hole. Despite falling short of a win in his fifth consecutive appearance at the tournament, it was still a memorable day for the 15-time Major champion as he witnessed his son make his first career hole-in-one.
Hitting his tee shot into the par-three fourth, 15-year-old Charlie watched his ball pitch short of the hole before trickling into the cup. Initially unaware that his ball had gone in for an ace, Charlie then celebrated jubilantly alongside his father who was full of praise his son’s progress in recent years.
‘He’s gotten better at every facet of the game,’ Tiger reflected after the pair’s second-place finish. ‘That’s a commitment to practising and developing as a player. ‘I think that most of us forget he’s only 15 years old. I know he’s been doing this in front of the media for a long time. But being only 15, I think it’s incredible what he’s been able to accomplish so far, and the ceiling that he has is unlimited.’.
Asked about the moment his son made an ace, Tiger added: ‘That was the thrill of a lifetime to be able to have that moment with Charlie, make his first hole-in-one, Sam on the bag, just our family and friends. That’s what this event is about. It’s about bonding and family.
