Rising star Charlie Woods has made no secret of his desire to mimic one of his dad's many golf feats. The young golf sensation and son of golf great Tiger Woods sent the sport's fandom into raptures after nailing his first hole-in-one last Sunday (Dec. 22). Woods Jr, 15, gifted himself an early Christmas present at the PNC Championship in Orlando, Florida, where he even had his dad as a team-mate in the father-son competition.
It was a reminder that the Woods bloodline is alive and well in the hands of the upcoming talent. But for Charlie, the achievement is just a snippet compared to his grander ambitions in the sport. Eager to follow in his dad's giant footsteps, the young Woods has already made it clear his eyes are firmly set on one specific prize - the US Open crown. Charlie voiced his passion to add that major to his collection after securing a spot in the USGA Championship for the first time.
"The USGA means a lot to me," he told reporters in June 2024 (via The Mirror US). "I want to win USGA Championships and hopefully one day the US Open.". It was almost a quarter of a century ago that his father claimed his first US Open title at Pebble Beach. That was the same year Woods Sr was a Masters title short of completing the calendar Grand Slam, a feat no one has ever managed in the modern era.
Tiger triumphed again at the US Open in 2002 and 2008, victories that preceded a period of dwindling major performances overshadowed by personal controversy. Charlie was born in February 2009 to Tiger's ex-wife and Swedish model Elin Nordegren, shortly before the news of his father's infidelity hit the front pages.
