Tory councillor died in drugs den 'suffocated by plastic bag with cocaine in blood' A senior Tory councillor who was found dead at a drugs den had cocaine in his system and was suffocated with a plastic bag, an inquest heard.
Black Country Senior Coroner Joanne Lees said a post mortem held in the days after Mr Winwood died found that he had been suffocated with a plastic bag.
Former mayor Les Winwood, 67, was found at the house of crack cocaine dealer Keith Kennedy in the early hours of July 17, 2022.
Sentencing, Judge Michael Chambers KC said: "To your credit you phoned emergency services concerning the death of Mr Winwood but also it can be argued you had no choice.".
Police attended the scene in Bilston, West Midlands, after Kennedy called 999 when Mr Winwood died.
