DONALD Trump is set to make history with a second state visit to the UK hosted by King Charles. The incoming US President is set to be the first-ever elected politician to be hosted for a second time by the Royal Family. Trump is claimed to adore the Windsors - and recently had a love-in with "handsome" Prince William after meeting him in France.
Downing Street is preparing to offer the incoming US president an invitation once he is back in the White House, reports The Telegraph. It is understood any such a visit would be unlikely to happen until at least 2026 given the King's busy schedule. The UK will be on a charm offensive to woe the Republican who made an incredible comeback to win the 2024 US election.
Prime Minister Keir Starmer has faced questions about how well he will be able to cosy up to Trump. For decades the US and UK have been the closest of allies with the so-called "special relationship". But many of the PM's Labour colleagues have previously openly criticised the 78-year-old billionaire.
Foreign Secretary David Lammy previously called Trump as a "tyrant" and "xenophobic" - something he later dismissed as "old news". Trump previously made a three-day state visit to the UK back in 2019 - where Queen Elizabeth II greeted him. At the end of the visit, the Queen told him: "I hope you come to this country again soon.".
Trump met William earlier this month at the historic re-opening of the Notre-Dame in Paris. The two also met at the UK Ambassador's Residence in Paris. He appeared smitten by the heir-to-the-throne - gushing that the Prince of Wales was "very handsome".
