Police have confirmed that two people have been arrested after disrupting a Sigourney Weaver West End production. A 42-year-old woman and a 60-year-old man – have been arrested after a Just Stop Oil protest disrupted a West End performance of The Tempest starring Sigourney Weaver. The Metropolitan Police said the pair were being held in custody on suspicion of aggravated trespass after attending a central London police station on Tuesday.

In a video posted on social media by the protest group, mother-of-three Hayley Walsh and mechanical engineer Richard Weir can be seen walking on stage where Alien star Weaver, 75, is performing at the Theatre Royal in Drury Lane, central London, on Monday night. Police urged anyone at the show to contact them.

Chaos unfolded on Monday night when the protesters held up a banner during the Shakespeare production of The Tempest. The two activists decided to make their entrance as Weaver delivered the line "Come forth" as another character emerged from the floor.

The pair let a confetti canon off while one of them stated: "We'll have to stop the show ladies and gentleman, sorry." The pair were met with boots and heckles from the audience, with some yelling: "Get them off the stage." Sigourney had been sat on a chair in the middle of the stage but was later escorted off the stage.

Protestor Hayley Walsh, 42, responded to backlash for the stunt as social media users fumed: "Disrupting art and a performance is not cool." The lecturer and mum-of-three from Nottingham said: "I am scared for my children, I can't sleepwalk them into a future of food shortages, life-threatening storms and wars for resources.
