Wetherspoons is set to close the doors on a number of its popular watering holes throughout 2025. After it sold off a number of the pubs in 2023, dozens more have closed their doors – and it seems it is set to bid goodbye to a few more this year. Several of the pubs are up for sale and some under offer – meaning your local watering hole could soon be gone for good.

Right now, two sites are currently at risk as they are either up for sale or under offer. The Wetherspoon branches under offer are not guaranteed to be sold and could remain open if the sale falls through. But which pubs are at risk? Here is what we know.

Sir Tim Martin, the chain’s founder, previously had 950 pubs and has cut the list to around 800 at the current count. He said that Wetherspoons “regularly reviews” the pubs it has on the books, and will keep tabs on which might be put up for sale.

The chain previously said most of the recent closures were of venues that are “smaller and older” or where the company has a second pub reasonably nearby. Sir Tim said in the latest trading update: “The gradual recovery in sales and profits, following the pandemic, has continued in the current financial year. Total sales are, again, at record levels, with fewer pubs.”.

Two pubs are currently for sale in the UK. These are Ivor Davies in Cardiff and the Quay in Poole. Just one at present: the Sir Daniel Arms in Swindon. Despite the many closures, the chain is eyeing up sites in 130 towns and cities and has opened a number of new pubs in the last 12 months. They including the Captain Flinders near Euston Station, London, The Lion and Unicorn at Waterloo Station, London, the Star Light at Heathrow Airport, The Grand Assembly in Marlow and the Scribbling Mill in the White Rose Shopping Centre in Leeds.
