Which football games have been cancelled today due to the snowy weather?

Warnings have been issued this weekend due to severe weather and a number of football games up and down the country have been postponed as a result. Several areas of the UK have been hit by amber weather warnings after snow and freezing rain overnight.

Runways at Manchester and Liverpool airports were closed on Sunday morning while teams worked to clear the snow. The Met Office warned ice would be a hazard in places across the UK throughout Sunday, leading to concerns over the state of pitches and fan safety.

Chesterfield’s League Two clash with Gillingham became the first EFL casualty on Sunday morning, with Fleetwood Town v Wimbledon soon following suit. ‘Following a pitch inspection, this afternoon’s fixture against Gillingham has been postponed,’ Chesterfield posted on social media. ‘A new date will be announced in due course.’.

Fleetwood, meanwhile, said: ‘Due to the fitness of the pitch and surrounding area due to heavy snowfall on the Fylde Coast during Saturday night into Sunday morning a call was made in consultation with the EFL and PGMOL.’. Several women’s games have also been cancelled, including the FA Cup third-round clash between Nottingham Forest and Burnley, with more fixtures across the country likely to be affected in the coming hours.
