A young woman who was banned from her GP after repeatedly asking for pain killing medication was later diagnosed with an incurable cancer, it has emerged. Steph Thomas, 28, was removed from the Hope Farm Medical Centre in Ellesmere Port and told it was because of a 'breakdown in the GP/patient relationship' following her demands for more morphine.

Around nine months later in September this year she was then diagnosed with incurable cancer that had spread so far that its origin could not be established. Doctors previously thought that her symptoms were as a result of a chronic bladder condition which she suffered from.

The keen horse rider, from Ellemere Port in Cheshire, lives with Fowler's Syndrome, which is a chronic illness that affects the bladder and causes difficulty in passing urine. In 2021, she noticed a change in her symptoms, and her GP prescribed a course of morphine to manage the pain.

However, doctors told Steph they believed the pain was caused by her pre-existing condition. Ms Thomas' mother, Stacey Thomas, 46, said: 'They put her on a really high dose of pain relief, and she was complaining it wasn't working and she was needing more.

'She didn't get anywhere really, they just kept putting it down to her underlying condition and it wasn't taken seriously.'.
