Woman living in hospital bed for 18 months is arrested and evicted after NHS took legal action against her A woman who spent 550 days in hospital despite being medically fit to leave has been arrested and evicted after the NHS took legal action against her.
The judge said Jessie could challenge the council's assessment of whether the accommodation and care were right for her, but she could not remain in hospital "when she does not need a bed there, and has not needed one for over a year, and others do".
By the end of April, Jessie was ready to leave but found she had nowhere to go, as the care home she had previously lived in for nine years could no longer meet her needs.
Only one suitable place was found for Jessie out of 120 possible care home places following her stay in hospital.
Jessie, who relies on a wheelchair and needs help with her personal care, was stuck at Northampton General Hospital for 18 months.
