Renovating your home can be a time-consuming and costly endeavour - if you're doing it the traditional way. One woman, Sue, was struggling to sand the paint off her banister, but soon after starting the arduous task, she knew she couldn't continue. In an effort to save time, she scoured her brain - and her house - for anything that could help remove the stubborn paint from the wood. Luckily, she found a solution. While rummaging through her kitchen drawer, she spotted her vegetable peeler and decided, after hours of trying and failing, she had nothing to lose. Calling it a success is an understatement, as Sue claimed it helped her finish the job in half the time.
She now plans to use it on her skirting boards as well. Posting to the Extreme Budget DIY and Life Hacks Facebook group, she said: "After spending hours sanding and peeling a number of layers of my upstairs bannister.". "I was about to give up. I then saw my veg peeler in the drawer! "She added: "I cannot believe how quickly I've got two stair banisters done. I've saved a fortune.". Many people commented, calling her a "genius". One person said: "Omg I'm so doing this". Another added: "OMG I've been on at my other have to do this for ages!! Next weekend I'm going to start".
