Wrexham stadium to undergo huge expansion as Ryan Reynolds' latest plans emerge

Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney's ambitious plans for Wrexham's home stadium are set to expand even further. Details of revised proposals for a new stand at the Kop End of the Racecourse Ground have been revealed following a recent fan group meeting. The Hollywood-owned club, who are aiming for a third consecutive promotion to reach the Championship, currently have planning permission for a 5,500-seat stand.
However, this could now increase to 7,000 due to high demand for tickets for the north Wales team's home matches, following the global success of the Welcome to Wrexham documentary. Executive director Humphrey Ker described the updated designs as "standing out from the skyline" as the club aims to create a landmark structure.
New architects were appointed in October last year to oversee the Kop development and examine how it will fit with proposals to transform other parts of the stadium. Populous, the firm responsible for designing the new Wembley Stadium and the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, are leading the new Racecourse blueprint.
Minutes from the Wrexham club advisory board meeting held last month show two more phases are planned over the next few years. It's understood that the 4,200-capacity Wrexham Lager Stand will be one of the next areas to be revamped. McElhenney, creator of It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, has previously expressed a long-term vision to eventually increase the Racecourse's overall capacity to as much as 55,000 seats, reports Wales Online. Last spring on the Collider entertainment news podcast, he revealed: "We have a plan in place right now that would eventually work from stand to stand. So eventually, you get all four sides, and it's hard to say for sure, but we think we could get between 45,000 and 55,000 people in there.".
