People online have been left in stitches by a hilarious social media post by Aldi. On its Facebook page, Aldi UK posted the status: "Right, who wants to take one for the team and be OUR Valentine." The humorous post was shared last week and other businesses such as Specsavers, Ryanair, Primark and Domino’s Pizza were tagged, seemingly in a bid to bag the supermarket giant a date in time for Friday (February 14).
The post has been re-shared on TikTok by more than one user, including Chloe Gibbs who uploaded a slideshow of Aldi’s Facebook post and some of the comments it received. TikTok users have praised the supermarket’s social media team for their “genius marketing.”. Chloe captioned her TikTok post: “Nah they deserve a medal @AldiUK social media team deserve a medal for this one hahahaha, evening entertainment for me right there.” Her slideshow of Aldi’s Facebook post highlights funny responses, including “desperate is not a good look Aldi x” from Iceland Foods, “but we can make your heart pound” from Poundland and “wow, left on the hard shoulder again” from The AA UK.
Her TikTok post, uploaded on February 7, has garnered an incredible 2.5million views, 195,200 likes and 1,168 comments so far. The top comment is from Aldi who responded to her caption: “You say we need a medal, our boss says we need a word with HR x.”. One TikTok user said: “This is genius marketing. Ryanair did it first but yeah, this is what people want nowadays, banter, realness, unseriousness good fun.”.
Another pointed out Aldi’s reply to Iceland on its Facebook post: “Who defrosted the sassy one is underrated, that’s hilarious.” John Lewis chimed in on Aldi’s post with: “Roses are red, violets are blue, you need a date, and we’re here for you.” To this, Aldi replied: “When the rich guy slides in your dms.”. A TikTok user commented about this on Chloe’s slideshow post as they added: “Calling John Lewis the rich guy was so accurate.” Someone else expressed they are a fan of Aldi’s social media team: “If my kid ever tells me their dream job is Aldi social media, I’ll be there for them all the way.”.
Further remarks include: “Honestly had me giggling all eve I keep going back and looking at it for more” and “the comment section on the Facebook post is just brilliant, UK banter wins hands down.”. Aldi received 32,300 comments on its comical Facebook post and small businesses also got involved. The Accountancy Practice, based in Royston, Hertfordshire, said: “We didn’t account for falling in love with you so quickly”.
