Shakira has been rushed to hospital and has had to cancel a show. The music icon, 48, had been scheduled to perform in Lima, Peru, tonight as part of her Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran World Tour. However, after suffering from a medical issue, Shakira was advised to seek medical attention. After consulting doctors, she had no choice but to cancel the performance having been hospitalised. In a statement, the singer told fans: "I am sorry to inform you all that last night I had to go to the ER for an abdominal issue and am currently hospitalised. The doctors whose care I am currently under have communicated that I am not in good enough condition to perform this evening.
"I am very sad to not be able to take to the stage today, I've been looking forward to reuniting with my incredible fans in Peru. I hope to be released and well tomorrow so I'm able to perform. My team and the promoters are already working on a new date to communicate to you. "Thank you all for your understanding, I love you all. Shak." Fans have since rallied around the songstress, with one writing on X, formerly known as Twitter: "I hope you get better quickly. Your fans will be waiting here for you." A second went on to add: "Get well soon Shak.".
"Stay strong! We hope you recover soon," wrote a third. A fourth devoted follower typed: "Strength Queen, your health comes first, we send you many good vibes so that you recover, don't worry, your pack will understand. You're going to give a good concert when you're recovered.". The Chantaje hitmaker had performed in Lima on Friday as part of her tour, which recently concluded the Brazilian leg of its shows. Shakira is touring in support of her latest album, Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran, in which she channels her highly publicised split from Gerard Piqué into music. The record includes the global hit Shakira: Bzrp Music Sessions, Vol. 53 and won Best Latin Pop Album at the 2024 Grammy Awards earlier this month.
Shakira's tour continues across Latin America before heading to Canada and the U.S. in May for a series of concerts through June. Last year, she broke records when she sold out 13 stadiums in less than two hours after the first concerts went on sale. But while she's currently on the Latin American leg of her tour, it's claimed that Shakira will head to the UK next year – eight years after her last tour here.
A source told The Sun: "Shakira is a massive force in music around the world and it's been a very long time since she last performed in the UK. She has a new lease of life with loads of youngsters into her music now, so she is hitting the road with her most ambitious and impressive tour ever. Shakira is chucking everything but the kitchen sink at her upcoming gigs and wants to do a full lap of the globe. She's going all-out.".
It's claimed that the tour could continue for some years, with Shakira herself saying she has no plans to slow down any time soon. She said: "l always have the drive for more, there's never a time that I come off stage and don't think there’s something I could have done better. I can never say no to a challenge. There are always new mountains to climb.". Like this story? For more of the latest showbiz news and gossip, follow Mirror Celebs onTikTok,Snapchat,Instagram,Twitter,Facebook,YouTubeandThreads.
