In good news for anyone looking for budget-friendly Valentine’s Day gifts, the cheapest UK supermarket for roses has now been revealed —and for once, it isn’t Aldi taking the top spot. So even if you’ve blown 99% of your budget on a dine-in for two deal or extravagant gift, you don’t need to forgo the staple bunch of roses. And better still, you won’t risk relationship disaster with a hastily-purchased petrol station forecourt bouquet.

Asda co-owner Mohsin Issa has confirmed he will step down from running the supermarket and will hand over the reins to chairman Lord Stuart Rose and the management team. Asda said Mr Issa will this week leave his executive role to concentrate on his recently announced move to become sole chief executive of the petrol station forecourts business, EG Group. Help is at hand from the UK’s supermarket chains, each of which is offering deals to suit even the tightest of budgets. Here’s what you need to know to keep romance and your bank balance blooming this Valentine’s. If you’ve found yourself really on your uppers this Valentine’s Day, then a single red rose is currently available at Asda for just £1.97. Alternatively, if you have a bit more cash to play with, the ‘My Sweetheart’ dozen roses are priced at £4.27.

Asda claims both are cheaper than their equivalents at Aldi, with Aldi’s website currently listing a single red rose at £2.29 or a dozen at £4.49. On the other hand, if you’re feeling flush, Asda also offers an ‘Exceptional by Asda’ range of Premium Roses for just under £20 (£19.97 to be exact). In comparison, Aldi’s ‘Love Always’ bouquet (boasting 15 ‘Top Secret Red Roses’) is priced at £9.99.
It’s not entirely surprising that Asda has taken the crown for this year’s cheapest roses, as January 2025 saw the reintroduction of its famous rollback campaign, which saw prices cuts on over 4,000 popular products. Don’t worry if you aren’t local to an Asda though, as you can still pick up a bargain bunch of flowers elsewhere. Lidl has three options for roses this year, with a dozen red blooms starting at £4.49.
Tesco is also offering a budget-friendly option with its Red & Orange Small Roses Flowers Bouquet available at £3 and a larger bunch for £5. Sainsbury’s is slightly more expensive, with 12 red roses available for £6 or a dozen for £10, while Morrison’s has a dozen roses priced at £5 alongside a special Valentine’s bouquets at £20. M&S is even pricier, with a Dozen Red Valentine’s Roses Bouquet priced at £30 — but this does include free nominated-day delivery right to your love interest’s door.
