Solving this simple children's puzzle isn't as easy as it looks. Keeping your brain active is important at any age, but it's particularly vital for children. Their brains are still developing, and they should be given plenty of stimuli to ensure they stay healthy. There are plenty of puzzle books for children that offer a multitude of brainteasers, ranging from word puzzles to maths questions, and they can all help your child challenge themselves in ways that will improve their cognitive function.

Most of the time, brainteasers designed for children are pretty easy for adults to solve. Our brains have been developed for a while, and although it is still vital that we keep the cogs turning as much as possible, the level of puzzles that we find difficult is much higher than those made for kids.

But one quiz question designed for children has been leaving adults stumped - especially when they see what the answer should be. Can you work it out?. The question was posted on Reddit, where the poster said they got it from a maths workbook designed for middle school children in the US who are between the ages of nine and 14.

It read: "Martin can save $12 every week. Patricia can save $18 every week. Who will save $36 first? After how long?". To most adults, this question isn't difficult. You might have immediately declared that Patricia can save the money first as she earns more in a week. You may even have said it would take her just two weeks, as most of us know that 18 x 2 = 36. This is in comparison to Martin, who would take three weeks to save the cash as 12 x 3 = 36.
